New York State Governor Andrew Como said on Tuesday that he will not be bound by any order President Donald Trump may reopen his mandate in an unsafe manner amid the outbreak of the Corona virus.
“If he orders me to reopen in a way that would endanger the public health of the masses of my state, I will not,” Como said in an interview with CNN.
He added that any such order would represent a “constitutional challenge” between the states and the federal government and would be referred to the judiciary.
On Monday, Trump said he believed he had “full authority” over states over the state’s response to the epidemic, in a position immediately rejected by legal experts and some state governors as he lacked a constitutional basis.
