Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov announced that dialogue with the United States on the new Russian weapons systems cannot be heard without comprehensive discussion of US projects in this field.
Ryabkov said in a press statement today, Friday, that it is necessary to discuss the issue of the missile defense system, the deployment of weapons in space, in addition to other programs that could destabilize the strategic stability, stressing that this is a firm condition.
“Therefore, we confirm once again and send the signal to the United States that the discussion on the issue of strategic stability can be comprehensive, and in the context of this conversation we will be guided exclusively by the task of ensuring our national security, which is the alphabet of our approach to working in the field of arms control,” the Russian deputy foreign minister said.
He explained that this relates to the establishment of a global missile defense system, the possibilities of weapons appearing in outer space, a lightning strike program, and others, noting that “We cannot ignore these programs and the areas of the US military’s work, because we consider them destabilizing to strategic stability.”
