A spokesman for the Iranian Ministry of Health, Kianosh Jahanpur, announced that he expects Corona to remain in Iran until at least next winter, stressing that his country rejects the “herd immunity” theory in fighting the virus.
And Jahanpur expected during a press conference, that about 10% of Iranians will be infected with the virus, adding that in the worst cases, 15% of them may contract Corona.
Jahanpur said that Iran faces in the cold season an outbreak of the influenza A virus, and that if efforts to eliminate corona are not successful until next autumn, Iran should be ready to confront the two viruses together, that is, corona and influenza.
Jahanpur stressed that any study conducted in the world in order to discover medicine for the Corona virus is carried out in parallel in Iran as well, expressing his hope to reach a vaccine for the virus within 9 months.
Jahanpur revealed that HIV infections have increased recently in 4 or 5 Iranian provinces, and that the trend of infections in the rest of the regions has taken a steady horizontal trend, expressing his hope that he will be able to control the virus outbreak in the coming weeks.
