Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chun Ying revealed Thursday that her country has decided to donate an additional 30 million dollars to the World Health Organization for its support in the global battle against Corona.
She wrote on Twitter that the donation is aimed specifically at strengthening health care systems in developing countries.
She stated that China had already donated 20 million dollars to the World Health Organization last March.
Jing Shuang, another Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman, said in a statement during the daily press conference at the ministry’s headquarters, that this donation reflects the confidence and support of the Chinese government for the role played by the world organization.
Shuang added that China has always maintained that solidarity is the only way to combat and defeat this virus.
This generous Chinese donation to the World Health Organization comes at a time when the United States cut off any funding, at the height of the global battle that this United Nations is leading against the Covid-19 epidemic, accusing it of failing to tackle the Corona virus.
US President Donald Trump has announced that he has decided to suspend government financial contributions by the United States to the organization’s budget.
Trump attacked the world body via Twitter, noting that he rejected its “wrong” recommendation to leave the atmosphere open with China during the start of the emerging Corona virus.
“The World Health Organization has spoiled that, for some reason, the organization is largely funded by the United States, but it is biased towards China,” Trump said.
