Methanol kills hundreds in Iran due to a misconception of its effectiveness against corona

The number of deaths caused by methanol poisoning in Iran has risen to more than 300 people, and about a thousand others have been poisoned in different regions of the country, as a result of a mistaken belief about methanol.

Many Iranians consume methanol after rumors spread that consuming alcohol helps cure the emerging corona virus.

Reports indicated that a five-year-old boy was blinded after his parents forced him to take toxic methanol, after a rumor spread that this alcohol was effective.

These rumors also coincided with messages spread on Iranian social media indicating that drinking alcohol-free sterilizers would kill the virus.

The World Health Organization has denied rumors about the treatment of the emerging corona virus by drinking alcohol.

This is Iran, one of the most countries that enables the emerging corona virus in the world with the United States, Spain, Italy and China.
