The United Nations warns of a “bloodbath” in Syria

The United Nations reiterated its call for an end to the fighting in northwestern Syria, warning that the violence there would end with a “bloodbath”.

“Children make up about 60% of the 900,000 people who have been displaced and are stranded in a diminishing space,” Jens Lerk, a spokesman for the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, said in a press statement on Friday.

He added that “the ongoing violence must stop before it turns into what we fear, which may end in a bloodbath.”

The United Nations has recently called on Syria, Turkey and Russia to stop the escalation in Idlib, northwestern Syria, and the need to ensure the arrival of humanitarian aid in Idlib governorate, where the situation has deteriorated sharply recently.
