Is Moscow still ready to agree with Ankara on the fate of Idlib?!!

Under the above headline, Elnar Paynazarov wrote, in “Izvestia”, about the difficulty of the agreement between Moscow and Damascus, on the one hand, and Ankara on the other hand, for a solution in Idlib, so what is proposed to defuse the war?

The article says: Moscow calls on Ankara to return to the settlement of the situation in Idlib through diplomatic means. The power scenario will only make the situation worse. This is what he told Izvestia, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee Andrei Krasov. According to him, only the terrorists benefit from a military solution to the crisis, by exploiting chaos.

Turkey still believes in the possibility of resolving the “Idlib dilemma” in diplomatic ways, and Ankara is ready to continue negotiations with Moscow before starting a military operation. That, what he told Izvestia, the Turkish parliament member Ozturk Yilmaz.

He added, however, that negotiations should be held soon. The atmosphere in the country is tense because of the killing of Turkish soldiers in Idlib. The Syrian army is deepening its offensive inside the governorate. Therefore, Turkey will not hesitate to confront it militarily. However, after discussions with the Russian side to exclude a direct clash between the forces of the two countries.

As for the head of the New Turkey Study Center, Yuri Mavachev, he sees the situation now more severe than it was last October, when Ankara started the “Spring of Peace” process in northeastern Syria.

He said: The crisis can be solved as follows: allowing Ankara to lift the blockade of observation points or staying in the sites it occupies today. And it will continue to enhance its presence, but it will not take dangerous steps.

According to him, Russia may play a buffer role between Turkey and the Syrian Arab Army. The Syrians leave the observation posts, and the Russian army occupies the disputed sites. And then, Erdogan will be able to show his fans that he forced the Syrian army to move away from the border.

The danger, Mavachev says, is that the radical politicians, who will not even agree to the maximum that Russia can offer, gain strength in Ankara. They will accept nothing less than full control of the Idlib governorate, as was the case before. But the withdrawal from the sites that were recovered with great efforts is not appropriate for Damascus or Moscow. Therefore, we must wait for the third round of negotiations, which, as everyone hopes, will clarify the situation and help get out of the dilemma.
